Upper-Bay Canvasback Decoys # 2
It was wonderful in the old days on the Chesapeake. You'd drive down to Havre de Grace in the afternoon from Philadelphia so's to be on hand for the opening. Everywhere you looked you'd see gunners. The air even felt "ducky" The cans were there, too. Everybody said so. More than had been seen for years. They looked like plumes of smoke when they got up. And Redheads ! Man alive ! They'd almost take your head off if you stuck it out of the battery. There'd be some powder burnt on the flats in the morning. ......from "Canvasbacks from North to South".
