Photographs of Havre de Grace and Perryville Train Station

Believed to be original house of Sam Barnes in Havre de Grace, MD.

Believed to be original Duplex style house of John "Daddy" Holly and son James Holly.  The Barns house as above is located very close to The Holly house.  Sam Barnes and Jim Holly were great friends and made decoys together and interchanged some Decoy heads and collaborated on important decoy design issues of the era.

Tale of 2 bridges.  Lower bride is original Railroad bridge destroyed by ice jam.  Upper bridge is current electric AmTrak train bridge.  Trains running between Havre de Grace, Perryville and Charlestown picked up Waterfowl to be sold in Big city markets and fine resturants.

Susquehanna flats viewed from the Perryville side.

Perryville Train station.  Many Canvasback ducks were shipped to large city markets during the heyday of the Susquehanna market hunting era.

Baggage hand car at Perryville Train Station.  Canvasback ducks are believed to have got their name from the Canvas bags used to ship the ducks in.  CANVAS-BACK was written on the bag or Boxes the bags were shipped in to remind the porters to re-cycle the bags.

View of Susquehanna flats near mouth of the Northeast River near Perryville.  Due to very old Glacial silt and more recent soil runoff the flats are very shallow, often at low tide only a few feet deep.
