The Historic nature of Maryland seems somewhat surreal when you are surrounded by reminders of what went before, the reality of now and your place in the large scheme of things.  Traveling across North-East Maryland county side, passing the farmlands, seeing the huge gaggles of Geese of Cecil and Kent counties; we were reminded of the grand heritage of American hunting, by of all things, Billboards.  That's because Wilmington, Delaware is only a stones throw away from the Upper-Chesapeake county.  Wilmington is the historic home of the Dupont powder manufacturing company.  Even though many hate billboards and they are outlawed in many states, the appearance of classic depictions of duck hunting scenes (or at least I remember them as such) seemed comforting.  It made one feel that this was part of a heritage, a big heritage of marshes, waterfowl, gunning dogs and that unmistakable smell of gunpowder on the mourning mist.  I don't remember clearly what many of them said, I know that quite a few concerned Remington arms.  But, that does not matter, at least to me.  Maybe some of them were close to the old Remington farms complex that we visited.  In the end, its the overall tapestry of Fall leaves, long sky high strings of Geese and boots breaking trail in frosty grass.   see Dupont Museum
